Act locally
We also host a Ten Thousand Villages sale during Christmas in Davidson at the beginning of each December. Ten Thousand Villages works with more than 100 artisan groups in more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America to provide jewelry, home décor, and gifts.
As one of the world oldest and largest fair-trade organization, they build long-term relationships with artisans that are based on understanding and respect. Fair trade enables artisans to earn fair wages and provides the opportunity for a better quality of life. In addition to making local people aware of the importance of fairly-traded items, DCPC gets a percentage of the sales which is used for global missions.
Other ways to act locally include:
- Pray for our partners and for God's work in a hurting world.
- Write a letter to a member of one our partnerships. Create a page to go in one of our partnership scrapbooks; include pictures of your family and daily life. These are great ways to to share our lives with our partners without getting on a plane. Talk to Shelli Latham if you have questions.
- Speak out about public policy issues involving our brothers and sisters in Christ. Write to your elected officials about ways that our country can be a better global neighbor. Church World Services can offer guidence in regards to key issues.
